Chapter 12


In reading the article "What's A Business for?" by Charles Handy. He discusses what businesses do for society and the community. Good or bad. I was astonished at how many of the top 100 NASDAQ companies had fraudulently reported income on their financial statements totaling more than a billion dollars. How can we trust these companies. What can we do as the new generation of small business owners to show the proper way to conduct oneself in the industry.

Reading the Book Launching Leaders by Steven A Hitz has changed my life. I am so excited and inspired to begin. I might have to do things a little different. I will get up at 5a and go straight to the gym. After I get my kids off to school I will use the first thirty minutes for mediation and prayer. I will write in my journal and set my goals and intentions for the day/week.  I participate with a group called Teamserve to help kids become involved in service. We serve once per month. I also try and serve my inlaws at least once per month but preferably twice. I plan to pray every day to ask for ways that God would like me to service. The more I show Him that He can trust me the more He will call upon me to serve.

I intend to write down my core values and pray for reassurance that I am on the right track. I am hoping to encourage my husband to read the book as well. In order for us to be financially fit we both need to be on the same page with our finances. I have always been terrible at creating and staying within a budget. This will be one of my biggest challenges. I feel like If I can do this I can really do anything.

I have thought a lot about what I want to do for a business. My sister has created a group called Teamserve that allows kids an opportunity to serve in their community. She wants this group to go national. That is her dream. The more I have worked with her in this group, the more I have fallen in love with the program and want to help her make it grow. This might just be my calling in life. I am excited to help grow this group.

Week 1 Journal

September 21, 2019 First Journal Post for Entrepreneur Class. It feels a little strange to create a journal that will be read by more than just myself. I am taking this class because I am curious about what it takes to start a business. I plan to get a master's degree in school counseling but I would like to create workshops for teens. I want to create a place where they would feel safe to open up to each other and teach each other.  Lessons I learned What I learned this week. It is important to find what I am good at doing. I need to learn what my gifts are and focus on those when creating a business. In "Living Life as an Entrepreneur Hero" Jeff Sanderfer says if you don't know your gift, ask a friend. Week 2 Journal
